Literature Review: Take 2

Okay...I've just written 5 pages of my literature review, and I've only gotten through my introduction and almost half of my first focus area. This is going to be long...

  • Helpful Hints: once I cite anybody's work, I immediately put that reference in the back
  • Difficulties: keeping track of the quotes I read earlier and want to use. I spent almost a half hour looking for a particular quote. I never found it and now I'm wondering if I ever read it, or it was something I stirred up subconsciously because it sounded good....HMMM? I'm losing it!
How's everyone else doing? If anybody wants to check out what I have so far, go to my website and download it. It starts on page 15. Any advice would be great. Thanks :)

  1. You're pages ahead of me. I spent most of the day on my references page. Now I have to make sure I work quotes in from all those sites in some way or other or I'll have to delete them. I know what you mean about losing quotes, that's happened to me too. There's got to be some organizational tool to prevent that but I'm not sure of what that is. Even if you write quotes by authors onto note cards or highlight them on pages. You still have to find it again when you want it.

  2. Heidi, I checked out what you've done on you literature review so far, and it looks great. It doesn't look like you have too far to go. Nice work!

  3. I know the feeling about the structure. I had a lot of problems dealing with the structure of my review. I had so many articles that I found and printed out. I had to read them all and had trouble putting it all together. I finally started dividing up the sections into subsections and typing the quotes in and then making them sentences. It has been a long weekend. Good luck!

  4. Heidi, I know what you mean about losing quotes. I think as I read more, I start to mix ideas together and create quotes in my mind that I wish I had. I suppose that is part of the process. As we read more, we start to expect what we are going to find and that cycle is where we grow with our topic. It looks like your literature review is coming together very well.
